Trash to Treasure: Three Easy D.I.Y. Projects You Can Do!

Face it: either you’re a proud slob or you’re trying hard not to be one. Either way, chances are that stuff keeps on piling up and you’re looking for somewhere to put it, and chucking it out is just a waste of perfectly good stuff. And they don’t have to be lame accessories either. Here are a few examples:
1. “Re-Mix” An Old T-Shirt: Cut your stuff up rather than buy it already cut, an absurd concept to begin with. And sewing doesn’t have to be patchwork pants; you can punk it up, cut the neck line out, or take two t-shirts and sew ‘em together. Better than spending thirty bucks on a new t-shirt.
2. CD Coasters: You’re just stealing music from the Internet anyways! Pretty soon you can use DVDs too!
3. Restring Your Jewelry: Because most likely your jewelry is already pretty ugly, so you might as well create new, ugly jewelry instead of buying more
These are some we just thought off the top of our head, and they save you money and stress. It’s liberating to rip it up and start again. Try it yourself, and give us more ways to tear up your past and start over again.

Golden Rule of the Environmentally-Savvy Shopper: Less is More

When buying products, less = more.
Think about it – if you buy less stuff, there is less for you to throw away. Then take all that money you didn’t spend and splurge instead on cool things to do – tickets for your fave rock band, for instance. Or yoga classes. Memories are way better than stuff anyway.
What would you rather do?

Global Warming Effects
Cheer up, it's not all bad! Global warming can have positive effects too. We came up with just a few. Pick your favorite or add your own.
Vegetarian Dinner

Check for a local vegetarian organization; chances are they do a vegan or vegetarian dinner sometime during the year. Typically, members cook veggie food and invite the community to join in. The food is usually top notch and regardless of whether or not you like meat, you could find a new favorite dish or recipe. And most of the time, unless they charge a small fee, the events are free!
Eat new food; meet new people.

Green Team
Will Farrell, John C. Reilly and Adam McKay do a spoof PSA about environmentalism in this tasteless, yet humorous skit. This is not suitable for viewing at work or school and contains parts that can be considered highly offensive. You have been warned…

Solar Energy

You can save on energy and never run out of power for your mp3 player or cell phone. This portable solar panel can be used to power small electronic devices, so anywhere there's sun is a place to recharge. If that's not a great excuse to stay at the beach another hour, I don't know what is.
And if you don't want to spring for the mini solar panel, just use a bottle of gatorade and an onion. Don't believe me? Check out this YouTube video.

Carbon Calculator II: The Cell Phone

A little while ago, we showed you an online quiz that determines the size of your carbon footprint. Well, the times they are a-changin’, because now you can look at your carbon footprint from your cell phone.
BusinessWeek has a small article in their BTW section announcing the arrival of a free program that you can download to your mobile phone. As you go through your day, you log all of your activities. That information is uploaded onto your computer and, through their website, you can analyze your footprint against your nation or the rest of the world.
Not only that, but it’s available in 21 languages.
