Eco Friendly Vodkas

We’re not idiots. Many people, young and old, drink alcohol, and there’s really no sense in trying to avoid discussing it. But like any food, clothing, or beauty product, environmentally unsound practices do occur in the processing and manufacturing of alcohol.

That’s why it’s important to be aware of eco friendly liquor products—in this case, vodka! The site Eatdrinkbetter has a guide to eco friendly vodkas that adopt such pro-environment practices as infusing their product with organic ingredients and providing you with an envelope for recycling your caps. So, we’ll turn a blind eye to the drinking, but we’re laid back enough to show you how to do it with the Earth in mind.

Foldable Green Motorcycles

As evidenced by the iPod, PSP, and Mini Cooper, people wish their items to be smaller and more portable. In the future, it is likely that we will see many everyday devices and gadgets becoming tinier than we can imagine; this goes for environmental products as well.

This apparatus hasn’t been created yet, but its design has won awards that indicate that it's in the works. It’s a motorcycle that you can fold up and carry with you as a suitcase. The bike is powered by an electric motor, which in turn gets its charge from solar panels on the outside of the body. Also, the appearance is very sleek, which means you get the look and feel of James Bond.

Futuristic Garden Art

One problem with creating your own garden—and one which is as environmentally conscious as possible—is that it often looks pretty ugly. Taking care to decorate a garden with such items as garden gnomes and birdbaths often achieves the reverse effect: your yard looks worse than it did before.

The Dutch design group studioTX offers a twofold solution to gardening problems. The first is with regards to decoration; as displayed on Treehugger, they’ve crafted a helium-filled bag with a neat design on the front—one that pokes fun at tacky garden dolls while also making their own model appear hip. The second achievement is as an environmental tool: The bag is biodegradable and lined with seeds. Given four to six weeks, the seeds inside spring forth into the garden and create a flower patch. So now, gnomes no longer just sit on your lawn—they actually grow the plants for you.

Solar Power Your iPhone

A new case will be released in the near future that will power a 3GB iPhone’s battery using solar energy. While it takes a long time for the battery to charge, it does beat the energy used when you have it plugged into an outlet. Plus, the cases don’t look any worse than the normal iPhone case, even though they have cooler tricks.

Recyclable Gift Cards

A gift card has always been a savvy present: It’s good to give someone when you’re not exactly sure what to buy them. Unfortunately, many gift cards contain toxic plastics that are extremely harmful for the environment. Because of the presence of this plastic, these cards don’t decompose and clog up landfills and the Earth alike.

We’re not giving you an excuse to be a jerk; now there’s a way for you to purchase gift cards without polluting the environment. This article points out that there are now biodegradable gift cards that use corn-based materials which allow gift cards to decompose faster. And you don’t have to go out of your way to get them; most are available at major department stores.

Star Wars: Most Environmentally Advanced Movie Ever?

A hilarious article over at Earthfirst tries to point out the pro-environmental aspects of Star Wars in order to reinforce the film's brilliance. Among such observations as the fact that no one is ever seen eating meat and that the droids run on a seemingly infinite battery, they point out how "The Force" relates to the environmental movement. But they forgot to mention how The Force uses the energy of good and evil rather than any computer-related technology, and how beneficial that is to the environment. That got us to thinking that we should shift our attention from green energy to force technology, because this is clearly where the future is headed. May the force be with us, always.

Which Television Is The Greenest?

1983337986_b6777dada0.jpg

An article in Scientific American discusses green options when purchasing a new television. Though they point out that both LCD and plasma televisions suck out a bunch of energy, they state that were you to choose between the two, the LCD is the more environmentally friendly option. For those bemoaning the loss of big-screen vision, don’t fret: Of all the options, the most environmentally friendly is a projector! Gives you some incentive to shell out for a theater, doesn’t it?

Of course, the best option is always to hold on to your analog TV, and it gives you some punk cred as well.
