Why Natural Beauty is Better

786584004_be4c5d74e0.jpg

As this article in Green Daily points out, many beauty products currently on the market contain harmful chemicals that can be damaging to both your skin and to the environment. At the same time, spending lots of money on organic products will make you wish you went back to standard shampoo.

So what’s the best way to solve this problem? By going super-organic--that means creating your own beauty products from scratch. Our favorite suggestion here is one for a face mask made out of bananas. Way more tropical and fragrant than cucumbers and lotion, isn’t it?

Bugging Out

With oncoming and present shortages of produce, massive pollution in the sea, and changing perspectives on animal rights, human beings have to reevaluate how we eat in the twenty-first century. Specifically, this has to be done with regards to how what we eat affects the Earth. So what’s one way of doing it? By eating bugs.

While some may cringe at the thought of chowing down on roaches and flies, it may be time to reconsider the little critters as a dietary choice. An article on Celsias discusses the advantages of eating bugs, from both a nutritional and environmental perspective. In one instance, she describes a current dish being served in Santa Monica, California: Scorpions and potato sprinkled with ants. Bon appetit!

Eco-Friendly Swimwear

We thought it’d be a pretty good idea, while we’re on the subject of undergarments, to let you know about some options for environmentally friendly swimsuits. As shown on Greenupdater, there are many flattering swimsuits on the market that are also far greener options. In one instance, a two-piece is made out of recycled plastic bottles and organic cotton. And, apparently, they feel comfortable too.

With some extremely hot weekends coming up—and plenty of trips to the beach to go along with it—it’s probably a smart idea to get a good swimsuit. When you buy, a green option may not just be the more considerate option, but the more stylish one as well.

Organic Underwear

Green Daily has a link to organic cotton panties that look surprisingly sexy. Though the thought of organic panties may cause reflexive discomfort, the consensus is that these are surprisingly comfortable.

Our next question is whether there are organic boxer shorts. There are! Rawganique has a pretty good selection, and you can even find organic boxers at Amazon. Just remember to get a hamper for those undies—you don’t want to cause air pollution as well.

The Green Way of Staying Cool

No, the title is not an allusion to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. When we say “staying cool” we mean it literally. It’s summertime, and that means it gets hot inside as well as out. Everyone’s first reaction is to reach for the air conditioner, but the truth is that there are easier, cheaper, cooler, and most importantly, greener routes to take towards staying cool in the summertime.

The Daily Green provides a number of options to stay cool during the summer that are greener than energy-gorging air conditioners. One suggestion, in particular, got us pretty psyched. Take two ice cubes and place one on each of your wrists, then tie them down with towels or rags. By doing so, you can lower your body temperature by as much as three degrees for an hour!
