Lip Gloss Danger?

clip_image003

Lip gloss is supposed to protect your lips – not cook them! But, some experts believe that the sun’s UV rays – already more of a problem because of global warming – might hit glossed lips harder. MSNBC reports that the resulting damage can be anything from premature aging to wart-like bumps to possibly skin cancer.

Why might lip gloss be having such a negative effect under the sun’s mighty rays? The culprit, ironically, might be the moisture in the gloss itself. Lips have a natural protective coating that the wet gloss pats down, decreasing its effectiveness.

Luckily, there are lip balms available with SPFs of as much as 50 – and experts suggest that you use one with an SPF of at least 30.

My daughter has been doing a science fair project on lip glosses so this information has been very useful for her... and something that we weren't aware of up until now. Thank you.
